Meeting Minutes from the Sept. 16, 2010 General Membership Meeting

Lisa Harris-Eglin, President called the meeting to order and read “This I Believe”.

Introduction of Officers and Executive Board Members by Lisa Harris-Eglin. Ms. Harris-Eglin thanked Past President Lisa Neuman for all of her support.

 

Old Business

Swearing in of new officers: Laurie Fay, 2nd Vice President, Juliet Van Kampen, Recording Secretary, Kathy Kelley, Treasurer by Lisa Neuman, Membership Chair.  Agnese Andrews is the PTA teacher representative for the year.

 

Motion #1 to accept the June 8, 2010 minutes by Fawn Montayne, 2nd by Brian Rozmierski.  Motion passed.

 

New Business

Kathy Kelley,   Treasurer, has forms for PTA purchases. These must be completed when any purchases are made for the PTA.

Membership Committee report:  23 members were recorded so far.  The goal for membership this year is 110.

The newsletter committee will publish an events calendar 3-4 times a year.  This will include news from The NY State PTA, current PTA events and a featured teacher profile.  Ms.  Harris-Eglin encouraged people to submit new ideas for this publication.

The Principal’s report:   The transition back to school is off to a good start.  The School Store is open 2x a week. It will be open once a week in the elementary wing and once in the middle school wing.

The Enjoy the City coupon fundraiser book has arrived.  The book will sell for $20 apiece.  The PTA will earn 50% of the profit on this sale.

Lisa Neuman spoke about 2 different funding areas that are supported by the PTA. The first is the Enrichment Fund. This fund is utilized in order to impact a broad segment of the population. The Enrichment Fund may be used by teachers or PTA members.  The Enrichment funds are limited and the PTA Executive Board must approve all proposals. The second is the Teacher’s
Choice Fund.

Teachers are encouraged to apply for money through the PTA for this program. Uses for this fund include classroom speakers, technology, games, party supplies, field trips and or supplements to offset financial burden imposed by classroom fees etc.  $50 per homeroom is allotted for this year.

Ms. Harris-Eglin asked for volunteers for the many events and fundraisers for the PTA.  She ensured potential volunteers that they will be contacted with specific information on volunteering duties.

School Banking will begin soon.  Volunteers are needed to make this program successful.

 

Announcements 

Next month’s PTA meeting will have a speaker about homework help.

Cindy Price spoke about PTA movie night.  A vote was taken to decide which movie to show on Feb. 4.

“Diary of a Wimpy Kid” emerged as the winner.

Reflections, Math Olympics and other programs featuring math and science will be considered for future funding by the PTA.

Aileen Nicoll has agreed to Co-Chair a PTA apparel sale.  A Co-Chair is still needed.

Sign-up sheets for volunteering will be available at the Open House on Sept. 23rd.

 

Motion #2 A Motion to adjourn the meeting was made by Jennifer Wilson and 2nd by Jeff Masline.  Motion carried.
