September 16, 2009 PTA General Membership Meeting

 

Meeting
called to order by President Lisa Neuman

Welcome
and introduction

Goals
for year:  better membership and communication

Membership
– Lisa informed membership about benefits of joining PTA, membership dues,
Website, and discounts.

 

Roberts
Rules of Order will be the method Lisa will use to run the meetings.  She provided a basic summary of those
rules.

 

Ways
to participate in PTA – officers, general membership, committees

Events/Services:  Bingo, Healthy Lifestyles, Movie
nights, literacy night, room parent, school banking, Project Linus, concert
refreshments, staff appreciation luncheon, Field Day t-shirts, 8th
grade graduation refreshments

Fundraisers
– are necessary to do what we do:  BonTon,
Enjoy the City (local coupon books with more value to local community, pancake
breakfast, spaghetti dinner and garage sale

Signup
sheets for all of these are in the front of the room.

 

Lisa
asked membership to read minutes of the June 9, 2009 meeting.

:  Made by Cindy Price to accept the June
9, 2009 meeting minutes as written. 
Seconded by Tracy Trainor; motion passed.

 

Treasurer’s
Report – no questions or comments

 

MOTION
 #2
:  Made by Brian Rozmierski to amend the
2009-10 budget to change “Entertainment Values” to “Enjoy the City” and to
change the “basket raffle” to “garage sale.”  Seconded by Melissa Mitchell; motion passed.

 

Lisa
Neuman added that we need to add Bon Ton to the budget, but we don’t know what
we will earn as this is the first time participating.  Details about the Bon Ton sale were then announced.

 

Making
Strides Against Breast Cancer – Mrs. Testo announced a walk and family fun day
for this cause to be sponsored by MenandsCares.  She talked about the festivities and the need for donations
from businesses.  The PTA runs the
refreshments table that is at the half-way point of the walk.  This is a great event for our kids to
be involved in. 

 

Other
new business – none.

 

Mums
sale pick-up and Rotary BBQ are taking place on 9/24/09.  Orders for mums are due by Friday;
$7.00 each for great, lovely mums per Lisa N.

 

Open
House is scheduled for 9/30/09. 
Mrs. Meany talked about the event and added that an announcement and
agenda will go home next Wednesday, along with information on the H1N1 virus
(District’s plan for preventing/reducing spread of the virus).  Open House is for parents only as it
allows for better focus on the instructional programs.  She added that we have a great health
program now that will be further discussed at Open House.

– Brian R. worked hard to get the website back up in an effort to help keep
membership informed.
